Welcome to Bel-Air Riding Club!

Welcome to Bel-Air Riding Club! Our base is at Bel-Air Hotel and Equestrian Centre in Ashford, Co. Wicklow, where we have access to all the facilities for training, shows, fun and games. The hotel bar also serves a great breakfast at week-ends, and it can be hard enough to drag the non-horsey family members out of the place.

Some of us keep our own horses, others enjoy horses from Bel-Air. We like doing well at shows, of course, but to be honest we are just as much about the social fun with horses. Check out the other areas of this site to see what we are up to. We hope to see you soon at one of our events, with or without your horse. Welcome!

Riding Hat Standards & Tagging 2016
FOR YOUR INFORMATION CONCERNING HAT STANDARDS & HAT TAGGING AT COMPETITIONS   Following the Sports Sub-Board Meeting on Monday 7 December, it was suggested that HSI affiliates standardise their protective headgear rules, in line with Eventing Ireland guidelines.   Currently, Eventing Ireland and AIRC have joint hat tags so that members of one organisation can use their hat at the other organisations events, and prevent protective headgear having several affiliate hat tags on.   From 2016, hat standard EN1384 is being removed from the list of approved headgear which means ALL hats will need to be re-tagged in 2016.  The old hat tags will not be recognised.   In addition, fixed peaked hats are not permitted cross country and EI/AIRC has produced a hat tag that clearly identifies it as fixed peak.   The hat tags produced by EI and AIRC are as follows:   Hat Type Accepted Phase Approved Hat Tag Skull Cap (no peak) DR, SJ, XC Bright Green Fixed Peak DR & SJ ONLY Bright Green and White     A hat can only be tagged with the correct tag if it meets the following standards:   o             European – All PAS 015 o             American – All SEI ASTM 95, ASTM F1163 2004 and SNELL E2001 o             Australian & New Zealand – All AS/NZS 3838 2006

Vets with Horsepower Seminar in UCD
An educational event for horse owners next Tuesday 23rd June at the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, Belfield, Dublin. Eight leading equine academics and specialist practitioners from the UK are riding their motorbikes around Ireland and the UK to deliver the VETS WITH HORSEPOWER seminar in aid of charity. On Tuesday 21st June they will cross to Dublin, by Ferry from Holyhead and plan to arrive in the UCD Veterinary School by lunchtime in time to deliver an afternoon of education for vets and horse owners alike. These eminent speakers are giving their time and expertise free of charge. In return, delegates at the seminar will make donations to the charity supported by the event, namely, the GAMBIA HORSE AND DONKEY TRUST. The funding is to provide surgical and diagnostic equipment for the clinic that was build as a result of the donations made during the 2014 Horsepower event. Its a very worthwhile charity and if any animal in the world needs the best vet care its the one upon whom the lives of children depend! The bikers have an ambitious target of 50k for the whole event! The VETS WITH HORSEPOWER last came to Ireland in 2011 and had a spectacularly successful CPD day. This year they will add a stream of talks for horse owners to the event. To book your place or for more infomation please contact email vivienne.duggan@ucd.ie

Directed by Louise Osmond and produced by Judith Dawson Dark Horse will take the audience on an extraordinary journey from a small Welsh mining village to the winners circle. Set in a former mining village in Wales, against the backdrop of the current recession, DARK HORSE is the inspirational true story of a group of friends from a working mens club who decide to take on the elite sport of kings and breed themselves a racehorse. Raised on a slagheap allotment, their foal grows into an unlikely champion, beating the finest thoroughbreds in the land, before suffering a near fatal accident. Nursed back to health by the love of his owners - for whom he is become a source of inspiration and hope - he makes a remarkable recovery, returning to the track for a heart-stopping comeback. Dark Horse is a CLUB film which means that it has not received a certification in Ireland. Only people over the age of 18 will be admitted. Riding Hats
The Association of Irish Riding Clubs is to phase out the use of riding hats with the standalone (BS) EN1384 standard from next year. This follows the decision of the European Union to withdrawn the hat standard from the Official Journal of the European Union. A.I.R.C. will permit (BS) EN1384 hats in 2015 but not thereafter. All hats will be retagged in 2016. If you are buying a new hat, please make sure that it has the PAS 015 standard mark or ASTM F1163 or Snell 2001 or AS/NZS 3838 and is Kitemarked, as the EN1384 standard alone will not be approved in 2016. Approved hat standards include the following: - EN 1384 (it is strongly recommended that it is prefixed by BS (British Standard) This standard on its own will be phased out at the end of 2015 after which it will be no longer permitted for A.I.R.C. activities. - PAS 015 (1998) - ASTM F1163 with SEI mark, - Snell E2001 - AS/NZS 3838: 2006 with SAI global mark
Dressage Test Change to 2015 list for AIRC Competitions
The list of dressage tests for A.I.R.C. national competitions has been amended. The change affects advanced intermediate riders at the National Dressage Championships. The morning test has been replaced with British Dressage 34 (2009). The change was introduced as the previous test was withdrawn by British Dressage. The updated list is available at this link: http://www.airc.ie/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=187&Itemid=250

We have received some important information from AIRC. ABOUT ALL NATIONAL AIRC SHOWS: A. All HORSES PARTICIPATING AT NATIONAL EVENTS HAVE TO BE REGISTERED WITH AIRC. There is no fee for this, but it is mandatory. If you want to do the national show juming championships 19th July, you need to get your horse registered ASAP. (Postal entries close Fri 3rd July. Online entries close Fri 10th July.) It seems the horse has to be registered BEFORE you can make your entry. B. ONLINE ENTRIES - Starting with the Show Jumping Championships in July, entries to national events can be made online on the AIRC website. It is also possible to enter through the club secretary on a special form, available from the AIRC website. ALL RIDING CLUB SHOWS: A reminder that all riders must make their own entry at the show, and present their ridingclub card on the day. It is not ok for one person to bring several riders' cards and enter everybody.
Protect Your Horse-Box Register it!
There is a simple way to protect your Ifor Williams horse-box, and make life a bit more difficult for people who steal horse-boxes to sell them on. Ifor Williams keep a register of their boxes; who owns them and whether they are reported stolen. To keep this register up-to-date, you need to do the following: BEFORE YOU BUY A SECOND-HAND BOX Take the serial number of the box. Phone Ifor Williams to check that it is not reported stolen. AFTER YOU BUY A NEW OR SECOND-HAND BOX Register it in your own name. Keep the number safe, so you know it even if the box isn't there. IF YOUR BOX IS STOLEN Report it stolen to Ifor Williams. PHONE NUMBER: Call Ifor Williams on 00441490412626. Ask for Customer Care.
